Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University. If you are looking for a fresh, vibrant and uniquely diverse setting in which to learn, work, teach, or conduct research, then you have landed in the right place.

As the largest college on the downtown campus, the College of Arts and Sciences is home to over 12,000 students, 550 faculty, and 300 staff members. Our faculty teach the core curriculum courses that serve as the foundation of nearly every four-year student’s university education. We offer more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the liberal arts and sciences across the humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, and the natural and computational sciences. At the master’s level, we are launching innovative new programs of study every year to prepare our future graduates to pursue the career of their choice in the evolving 21st-Century economy.

The broad spectrum of programs we offer is matched only by the remarkable diversity of our student body. Our students represent virtually all backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, religion, age, socioeconomic status, and country of origin. By stepping into the classroom and participating in campus activities, our students are exposed to the wealth of diversity that our student body brings. Our location in the heart of downtown Atlanta allows faculty and students to test their theories and gain practical experience by working with the companies, nonprofits, government agencies and diverse communities of the ninth-largest city in the U.S.

Working within our many research centers and collaborative teams, faculty and students in the college are creating new knowledge making new discoveries. Our researchers are working to find solutions to pressing, global-scale problems that affect nearly everyone’s lives, including challenges facing urban populations, immigration, access to clean water, transcultural conflict and violence, network infrastructure and data security, literacy and challenges to language acquisition, aging, obesity, and cancer detection and treatment. Our researchers set their sights far and wide, for example, predicting solar flares and discovering new planets. The world-class research conducted in the college is supported by record annual increases in federal and other external funding. Research and scholarly innovation among our faculty and students is visible nationally and internationally.

As Georgia State continues its historic rise, the College of Arts and Sciences will be at the leading edge. We will build on our past successes to create the next generation of programs and initiatives that will guide our future. We will continue to enrich the educational experience of our students and provide them with the tools they need to succeed at Georgia State and beyond. Our research portfolio will grow to new heights in funding, impact, and recognition, and we will leverage the university’s connections in Atlanta and around the globe to unlock new and exciting opportunities for all.
