The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program in Asian Studies provides students an opportunity to acquire a career-oriented range of skills and knowledge of this important and unique region of the world. Students can choose from a wide range of courses offered at Georgia State University.

Students have flexibility to craft a degree program that fits their interests and goals. Options include:

  • A concentration in international business and economy.
  • A minor in international business.
  • A concentration in English as a Second Language (ESL) with an option to obtain a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL).
  • Concentration in Chinese, Japanese or Indian/South Asian studies.
Program Details

High School Seniors and Recent Graduates
If you’re a senior in high school or if you graduated from high school within the last two years, you’ll apply to begin your bachelor’s degree program using Georgia State’s Common Application.

International students
International applicants are those students who are in the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa (B-1, H-1, J-1, etc.), students who are living outside the U.S. and who will require an F-1 visa to study in the United States, students who are in the process of applying for Permanent Residency status but have not yet received the Permanent Residency card or students who have been educated outside the U.S.

Asian Studies majors will:

  • Demonstrate competency in one or more languages spoken in Asia
  • Become familiar with multidisciplinary research methods used in Asian Studies
  • Explore the literature, religion, visual culture, gender relations, economics, history, or politics of the Asian region
  • Cultivate critical thinking skills and work to creatively solve problems
  • Develop teamwork skills and effectively communicate different perspectives on Asian issues
