Tawanna Tookes coordinates all administrative work relating to the Department of Communication graduate programs: Oversee graduate admissions; Manage graduate assistantship program; Manage confidential student databases; Recruitment & retention efforts; and Graduation audits; assists department’s Chair.
In 2011, Tookes was awarded the College of Arts & Sciences Senior Staff Leadership Award, and in 2005, she won the university’s Sparks Award, its most prestigious prize for staff accomplishment. She is a graduate of the GSU Leadership Academy for Women. Tookes has been active on several GSU elected governance committees including the university’s Staff Council and the College’s Executive Committee. She has served on several College committees including the Mentoring and Morale Committee and was recently recognized as one of the founding members of the Staff Council.
Tookes serves as the department’s coordinator for the annual Project Healthy Grandparents Campaign and in the community, she volunteers with the Children Restoration Network, the University of Phoenix Alumni Atlanta Outreach Chapter, and other local outreach programs in Clayton County.
