Robert Burns teaches undergraduate writing and literature courses. Although his major focus is on composition pedagogy, he is also especially interested in the intersection of literature and science, and his research focuses on writing about horticulture, gardening, and the history of agriculture in the United States. He is the author of many articles about roses and other plants in the works of Eudora Welty.
