- Biography
Kuangcai Chen is the Director of the Imaging Core Facility, directing and managing a shared, multi-user core facility at GSU's downtown Atlanta Campus. The Imaging Core Facility provides advanced light and electron microscopy imaging-based analytical capabilities to Georgia State and affiliated researchers and external users, primarily using digital microscopy, widefield light microscopy, laser scanning confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, etc.
The facility currently houses four Zeiss laser scanning confocal microscopes (LSM 510, LSM 700, LSM 780, and LSM 980 with Airyscan 2), one Scanning Electron Microscope (TESCAN Vega 3) with microanalysis (EDAX) capabilities, a few widefield light microscopes (both upright and inverted), and a list of other sample preparation and ancillary equipment. The state-of-the-art confocal microscope system, Zeiss LSM 980 with Airyscan 2, was funded in 2022 by NIH S10 Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG) (1S10OD032336-01).
