- Biography
Dr. Erica Akhter began studying neuroscience as an undergraduate, where she helped develop the snapping shrimp as a model system for studying neural regeneration in the periphery. This excitement for studies outside of the brain continued at Emory, where she completed her PhD in neuroscience while investigating changes in the spinal cord following nerve injury. In parallel, Dr. Akhter developed a passion for helping students find fulfillment both inside and outside the lab or classroom. She is actively involved in number of scientific outreach programs and currently leads the neuroscience-focused professional development course at GSU in addition to teaching neuroscience content courses.
