- Biography
Dr. Tann is a lecturer at Georgia State University within the Gerontology Institute. Her premier subject area is a dementia class for graduate and undergraduate students. She also enjoys her Death, Dying, & Loss course and Introduction to Gerontology, amongst other courses she teaches. She has positioned herself at GSU with a 2024/2025 cohort, leveraging her pedagogical skill set to enhance student success. Dr. Tann is a published author on the subject matter of dementia. Her book, “The Race of Dementia,” is currently being utilized in the nursing program at Texas Christian University and Georgia State University’s Gerontology Department. Dr Tann speaks candidly about dementia both domestically and internationally. She is a trained and certified Memory Screener, Virtual Dementia Tour Coach, and Oculus facilitator. Dr. Tann serves on several advisory boards and as a board of directors for Dementia Action Alliance and Georgia's Alzheimer's and Related Dementia state plan as a collaborator. She is a dementia advocate, practitioner, and caregiver specialist and is often called upon as a thought leader in the dementia space. Dr. Tann holds the rank as a monthly dementia Talk Radio show host, Caregiver's Journey Support Group facilitator, and a Memory Cafe host.

Dr. Debra Tann was recognized and selected as a BrightFocus Foundation honoree. She accepted this prestigious community impact award at a June 2023 gala. Her recognition as a staunch dementia advocate transpired at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC. Senator Raphael Warnock’s office delivered a handwritten letter to Dr. Tann during the Congressional Luncheon hosted by BrightFocus, acknowledging her dementia work in Georgia.Interests
In her spare time, Dr. Debra Tann enjoys reading, traveling domestically and internationally, Bible study, and celebrating the Arts. She volunteers her time with community projects as she firmly believes in servant leadership.
