Dr. Altman’s research is mainly in the areas of legal and political philosophy, with a focus on contemporary topics such as terrorism, civil rights, racial and religious discrimination, and freedom of expression. He is co-author (with Lori Watson) of Debating Pornography (Oxford University Press: 2019). His other recent publications include “Targeting al Qaeda: Ethics and Law in the U.S. ‘War on Terror’,” in Rickless and Barzegan, eds. Ethics of War: Essays (Oxford University Press), “Freedom of Expression and Human Rights Law: The Case of Holocaust Denial,” in Maitra and McGowan, eds. Speech and Harm (Oxford University Press), and the articles on “Civil Rights” and “Discrimination” in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
