Overview

The College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Art Award recognizes student achievement in the field of visual arts.  Students submit their own works of visual art to a selection committee comprised of faculty, staff, and student leadership in the Dean’s Office and the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design. Winning artwork is exhibited in the Dean’s Office throughout the 2016-17 academic year.

2016 Theme:  Crossroads + Intersections

Decisions, directions, and destinations are central to university life, a period of experimentation, discovery, and uncertainty.  Which bridge to burn; which bridge to cross?  One awakens to the innovation upon coming to an intersection.  American actor Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Treme) comments, “Culture is the intersection of people and life itself.  It’s how we deal with life, love, death, birth, disappointment… all of that is expressed in culture.”  Believing that art bridges cultures, we are proud to present the winners the 5th annual Dean’s Art Award that addresses the theme of Crossroads + Intersections.
