Materials Chemistry REU Program, University of South Dakota
Carly is an honors senior and will graduate this December with a bachelor’s in chemistry. She will be applying for PhD programs in chemistry and wants to work as a chemist. Carly has had leadership experience as the Membership Director for Chemistry Club and as the Secretary for Undergraduate STEM Research Society.
Last summer, Carly went to Carbondale, Illinois to research at an REU program at Southern Illinois University. Her role was to synthesize organic small molecules for applications in photo-voltaic devices and field effect transistors. This summer, Carly will be study at the University of South Dakota and participate in a physical chemistry laboratory, researching frustrated Lewis pairs and charge transfer in titanium dioxide nanorods. At Georgia State, she will begin researching in Dr. Dixon’s laboratory, where the group studies heme in biological systems.
