Antoinette Charles is an honors sophomore majoring in neuroscience. Her career goal is to practice medicine as a neurosurgeon and to improve healthcare for people, regardless of their ethnicity, socioeconomic status, nationality, sexual orientation, or gender. Antoinette is part of the Global Brigades at GSU, an organization where members travel to third world countries for a week to provide quality health care as well as education on sanitation and living a healthier lifestyle.
SMDEP is six-week medical school preparatory program that is geared towards increasing the number of highly qualified medical school applicants from minority groups underrepresented in medicine. Antoinette will have the opportunity to attend weekly evening rotations in hospital medical, surgical intensive care and emergency units, take classes, network, and attend seminars.
