Amari Parham
Amari is an honors freshman majoring in neuroscience. Her career goal is to obtain an MD-PhD specializing in psychiatry. As part of her career aspirations, Amari is learning Spanish and American Sign Language to serve a wide range of patients and to make medicine more accessible for underrepresented communities. In her free time, Amari enjoys traveling, studying languages, reading, meeting new people, playing violin, and watching Netflix (Grey’s Anatomy).
The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) participants will have the opportunity to take courses in anatomy, physics, biostatistics, health disparities, genetics, neuroscience, and other scientific topics that will prepare them for future pre-medical required courses. Students will also have some fun outside of the classroom and visit places such as Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and music festivals. SMDEP is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students who desire to attain a career in medicine.
