Where will the event be held? The College will be holding both commencement ceremonies for master’s students in the TBA.
When and where do student’s check in? Students should arrive to check in 10 a.m. for the morning ceremony and by 2 p.m for the afternoon ceremony. Follow the signs for the check in area.
What is the best way to get to the event? TBA. Additional campus parking information is available at parking.gsu.edu.
What will happen at the event? Following a short presentation by the college, each department will individually recognize graduates. Each master’s candidate will cross the stage, have his or her name called, and be hooded by department representatives.
What should I wear? The college prefers that participants wear cap and gown for this event. Additional information about ordering regalia is available at https://commencement.gsu.edu/cap-and-gown/. Please note that the last day to order regalia is TBA.
How will the hooding ceremony work?
Following a short presentation by the College, each department will individually recognize graduates. Prior to stepping onstage, please hang your hood over your right arm. As your name is called and you step onstage, proceed to the “X” on the stage, hand your hood to the faculty representative on the riser, and turn to face the audience. The faculty member will then place the hood over your head. Once the hood has been placed, proceed to the dean, shake hands, and then immediately proceed off stage and back to your seat.
Do my guests need tickets for the event? We expect a large turnout for the events, so please limit the number of guests you invite to four or fewer. This is not a ticketed event, but we ask guests arrive before the event start time to ensure seating.
How long will the event last? We anticipate that the event will last approximately one hour. We require that all students stay for the entirety of the event (and request that guests do so as well out of respect for our new graduates). Light refreshments will be available following the event.
Does this event replace the GSU commencement ceremony? Yes, this is the official Commencement for master’s students.
How do I request disability accommodations for me or my guests? Students with disabilities should contact the A&S Dean’s Office ([email protected]) with any accommodation requests, making sure to provide your name and the event name/date.
How can I get additional information? If you have other questions, please contact the A&S Dean’s Office at [email protected] or 404-413-5637. Additional information about A&S-related commencement events will be available at https://cas.gsu.edu/graduation-celebration/.
