The Dean’s Office is pleased to announce that Dr. Mindy Stombler, Department of Sociology, has accepted the position of Dean’s Faculty Associate for NTT Faculty Development and Review for the 2020-2021 year.
Dr. Stombler earned her PhD in Sociology from Florida State University. She joined the Georgia State University faculty in 2000 and was promoted in the first round of Principal Senior Lecturers in 2016. Over the last several years, Dr. Stombler has served as a mentor in various capacities. In recognition of this work, Dr. Stombler received CETL’s inaugural Graduate Pedagogical Mentorship Award and the American Sociological Association’s Howery Award for Developing Teacher-Scholars. She has also been honored for her teaching, winning the Southern Sociological Society’s Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award; the Georgia Sociologist
of the Year Award; and the CAS Outstanding Teaching Award, twice. She has served in multiple elected and appointed leadership positions at the national level and in her home department.
Dr. Stombler has contributed to Arts & Sciences faculty mentoring by serving as a liaison for the CAS Faculty Mentoring and Advising Program (MAP). Through MAP and the Office of the Provost she has served on multiple panels, orienting faculty and answering questions about expectations for promotion.
Dr. Stombler will assume her new position on August 1, 2020. As the Dean’s Faculty Associate for NTT Faculty Development and Review, she will work with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and the rest of the faculty affairs team to develop and implement targeted efforts designed to support faculty development.
