DAEL director wins Governor’s Award for the Arts and Humanities

Kay Beck has been awarded the prestigious Governor’s Award for the Arts and Humanities for her career-long contributions to Georgia’s film, media and digital arts industries.

Kay Beck receives the Governor’s Award for the Arts and Humanities.

Beck has worked to build Georgia’s film industry for nearly 40 years. Now the Director of Georgia State University’s Digital Arts and Entertainment Lab (DAEL), Beck has represented Georgia’s growing media industry as a liaison to partners as varied as Japanese cable networks and the Mexican consulate.

“This is a terrific accomplishment and a wonderful honor,” said David Cheshier, Chair, Department of Communications. “Countless people working in the industry consider her a valued mentor.”

Beck has previously worked at Georgia Public Broadcasting, Women in Film & Television Atlanta, and the Atlanta Film Festival, and has held a position on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Film Board.
